1951 Roosevelt dimes are widely collected by numismatists who favor silver 20th century coins as well as type coins across the board. The 1951 dime is also a popular coin for those who admire U.S. coins that honor our presidents, and the Roosevelt dime became the fourth regular-issue coin in the 20th century to do just that. The first Roosevelt dimes were minted in 1946, a year after our 32nd president died. Franklin Delano Roosevelt had contracted polio at the age of 39, and went on to found the March of Dimes. Fittingly so, he was honored on the dime.

1941 Dime Value

Roosevelt dimes were widely collected by Americans, and were minted by the tens of millions in 1951. Below are mintage figures for that year:

  • 1951 – 103,880,102; $3

  • 1951-D – 56,529,000; $3

  • 1951-S – 31,630,000; $3

  • 1951 proof – 57,500; $60

*Values are for coins in a grade of Extremely Fine 40, unless otherwise stated.

Note the production of proof Roosevelt dimes. 1951 marked the second year that the series saw proof versions struck. While 1951 proof Roosevelt dimes are somewhat easy to locate at dealers who specialize in modern U.S. coinage, they are scarce enough that their values remain much higher than those of uncirculated regular-issue dimes.
